Taylan Tegin established the Turkuvaz Art Gallery in 1980 in Ankara. Exhibiting artists are selected with the aim of exposing the public to new ideas and concepts in art and in making art and art ownership accessible to the public. The gallery has established links with many prominent artists but firmly believes in the importance of promoting new talent. The challenges presented by this quest to present the new and the fresh are ultimately rewarding as the gallery evolves alongside contemporary art.
Turkuvaz Art Gallery, while wishing to avoid the categorization of art or artists does favour work of a figurative nature over that of an abstract both in painting and in the plastic arts.
As a result of these policies the gallery is pleased that many of the prominent turkish artists can remember their early exhibitions in this gallery. Turkuvaz is certainly not an exclusively turkish space and occasionally welcomes exhibiting artists from other countries.
Exhibitions are staged between october and june and are usually rotated on a 3 weekly basis. During the summer months the gallery space is given over to archive exhibitions and research.
Taylan Tegin is one of the founder members and the current president of the association of the turkish artgalleries.
